Dynamic QR Codes
Every QR code is dynamic. Swap the URL it points to without reprinting, re-sharing, or losing a single scan. Your code stays the same — the destination evolves.
How it works
The redirect chain
When you create a dynamic QR code with Dead Simple QR, the code doesn't point directly to your website. It points to a short URL on our redirect service — something like dsqr.io/abc.
When someone scans your code, their phone hits dsqr.io/abc, which instantly redirects them to whatever destination you've set. You control that destination. Change it whenever you want — the printed code stays the same.
Because the scan passes through our redirect, we can also track it. Device type, location, timestamp — all captured without slowing down the redirect. Your visitor gets to your site in milliseconds. You get the data.
Comparison
Dynamic vs static
Dynamic
Destination can be changed anytime. Every scan is tracked with device, location, and timestamp. The QR pattern encodes a short redirect URL, not your final destination. One code, unlimited updates.
Best for anything that might change: menus, promotions, landing pages, product links, event information.
Static
Destination is baked into the QR pattern at creation. Can never be changed. No scan tracking. No analytics. The code is self-contained — it doesn't depend on any service to work.
Best for permanent, unchanging links: Wi-Fi passwords, vCard contact info, plain text, or URLs you're certain will never change.
Use cases
What dynamic codes unlock
Update after printing. Swap the destination on your restaurant menu when the seasonal specials change. The code on your printed menu stays the same — your spring menu URL becomes your summer menu URL.
Track performance. Put QR codes on flyers in two neighborhoods. See which one drives more scans. Know the device split, the time of day, the city breakdown — all without asking your visitors a single question.
Reuse across campaigns. Print a QR code on your product packaging once. Point it to your current promotion this month, your survey next month, your holiday sale in December. One printed code, year-round utility.
Recover from mistakes. Typo in your URL? Launched with the wrong landing page? Change the destination in two clicks. No reprinting, no stickers over stickers, no panicked calls to the print shop.

How we handle dynamic codes
Every code you create is dynamic by default. Up to 5 on the free tier, up to 100 on Pro. Each one gets a short dsqr.io redirect URL and full scan analytics from the moment it's created.
Change the destination in two clicks. View scan data in a clean dashboard — no CSV exports, no third-party analytics tools. And every code you create keeps working forever, even if you cancel.
Frequently asked
Common questions
What's the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?
A static QR code has the destination URL encoded directly in its pattern — it can never change. A dynamic QR code points to a short redirect URL (like dsqr.io/abc) that you control. Change the destination anytime without reprinting the code.
Can I change a QR code after printing?
Yes, if it's a dynamic QR code. The printed pattern stays the same, but you can update the destination URL as many times as you want. This is the core advantage of dynamic codes — one printed code, unlimited destination changes.
Do dynamic QR codes expire?
That depends on the provider. Many QR tools deactivate dynamic codes when you cancel or downgrade. With Dead Simple QR, dynamic codes never expire — they keep redirecting forever, even after cancellation.
Are dynamic QR codes free?
Dead Simple QR offers up to 5 dynamic QR codes on the free tier, with no credit card required and no trial period. Each code includes scan analytics and can be updated anytime.
