Scan Analytics
Every scan is tracked with device type, city, browser, and timestamp. See what's working without exporting a CSV or squinting at a dashboard.
What we track
Every scan is a data point
When someone scans your QR code, the redirect passes through dsqr.io. In that moment — before your visitor even sees your page — we capture everything you need to understand what's happening.
Device and browser. iOS or Android. Safari, Chrome, or Samsung Internet. You'll know exactly how your audience is scanning and can optimize your landing pages accordingly.
Location. City and country, derived from the scan's IP address via geo-IP lookup. Not street-level precision — city-level, which is what actually matters for understanding where your codes are getting traction.
Time. Exact timestamp for every scan. See whether your codes get scanned during lunch rush or after hours. Spot the Friday spike. Notice the Tuesday dead zone.
Unique vs returning. Know whether you're reaching new people or seeing the same visitors come back. Total scans tell you volume. Unique visitors tell you reach.
The dashboard
Built to read, not to configure
Every QR code has its own analytics page. At the top: total scans, unique visitors, trend direction, and country count — all at a glance, no clicking required.
Below that, a time-series chart shows scan volume over the last 7 days, 30 days, or 12 months. Toggle between views with a single click. The chart adapts its height and bar spacing to the amount of data — no empty grids when you're just getting started, no cramped bars when you have months of history.
Country and device breakdowns sit below the chart. If your code has only been scanned in one country, the country card stays hidden — no "United States: 100%" filling space for no reason. The dashboard shows what matters and hides what doesn't.
At the bottom, a recent scans log shows the last individual scan events with device, location, and timestamp. Useful for debugging ("did the code work when I just tested it?") and for getting a feel for who's scanning in real time.
Why it matters
Real questions analytics can answer
You printed 500 flyers and handed them out in two neighborhoods. Which one drove more scans? Create two codes, one for each flyer, and the answer is in your dashboard by end of week.
You put a QR code on your product packaging six months ago. You assumed your customers were local. Scan data shows 40% of scans are coming from Germany. You didn't know you had a German audience. Now you do.
You ran a conference booth and put QR codes on your banner. The scan spike happened during your talk at 2pm, not during the booth hours. Next year, you know where to put your energy.
None of these insights require surveys, UTM parameters, or Google Analytics expertise. The scan data is just there, attached to each code, waiting for you to look at it.
Privacy
What we collect and what we don't
We use MaxMind GeoLite2 for geo-IP lookup — city-level accuracy, not street-level. Device and browser information comes from the user-agent string, parsed on our servers.
We don't collect personal data. No names, no email addresses, no device identifiers that persist across sessions. We don't sell scan data or share it with advertisers. Your analytics are yours.
Frequently asked
Common questions
Can I track who scans my QR code?
Dead Simple QR tracks every scan with device type, operating system, browser, city, country, and timestamp. We don't collect personal information like names or email addresses — the data tells you what's happening without identifying individuals.
What data does QR code tracking collect?
Each scan captures: timestamp, device type (iOS, Android, desktop), browser and OS, city and country (via geo-IP lookup), and whether the visitor is new or returning. All of this is available in your dashboard in real time.
Is QR code tracking free?
Yes. Scan analytics are included on every plan, including the free tier. You get full access to device, location, and time data for every code you create. Pro and Business plans offer longer data retention.
How long is scan data retained?
The free tier retains scan data for 30 days. Pro retains up to 1 year. Business plans offer extended retention. Your QR codes continue working forever regardless of data retention — analytics retention only affects how far back you can view historical data.
